Project Epic - Nezha Concept Development

The Redesign Process for Nezha, whose design needed a 180 switch midway. A nimble and agile DPS character, I wanted to really make sure he felt fast, sleek and yet dangerous, while maintaining the cultural elements visually to really help make the character pop in the lineup (3d and sculpt work by the ever talented Anshelle Banzon - https://www.artstation.com/anshiban)

Initial Sketch for the redesign of Nezha - where the old one was more feminine, this redesign skewed all the way to the other spectrum. Kept the old elements I personally liked - the chinese styled collar and the directions of his lines

Some initial color explorations - settled in on the 2nd from left - proportions adjusted to fit the character style

Was unconvinced with the colors for his initial design - felt that he needed something more to breathe some life into a otherwise dull palette, hence I decided to play around and see if I could add more color & design at the same time

Some crest emblem explorations - each character in the game had a core, which was represented by a crest

Eventually settled on a maroon/magenta accent to really help him pop. Overall I think it was the best decision made in the course of his redesign. The pattern is also made so it looked like an inverse lotus petal - a constant theme for Nezha
